Updated Karate Goals, Revision #1

On January 2nd, all of us at Austin Okinawan Karate met to discuss our goals for 2008. We started with ten, but will (if it’s similar to our goal setting of 2007) whittle the list down to a top 3. That doesn’t mean that the others are not important, just that we’ll concentrate on the most important. For the first revision, we were asked to remove four of the original ten goals. My revised list is:

  • Lift weights three days per week
  • Drop my body fat percentage from 26% to 22%
  • Restart my karate/personal blog (hey, here it is!)
  • Bring six potential students to class over the next year
  • Perform nine kata per day (three times kata of the month, three times one empty hand, three times one weapon)
  • Start a lunch-time karate class at work (probably just starting one day a week for this one)
  • Build a makiwara in the back yard
  • Take a kata (starting with a basic one) and prepare an instruction book for it using digital photos and available desktop publishing software (probably Scribus)
  • Work out at least one day a week with my son, Matt (who’s getting ready to test for his brown belt)
  • Arrange a first aid class for the Austin instructors

I’m dropping the specific exercise goals because I think they’re subsumed by the “Drop my body fat percentage…” goal. I’m somewhat loath to drop the instruction book goal, but it covers multiple areas of interest for me, so I think I’ll still do it.

The next revision gets harder.
